Abdulai Caulker, Security Coordinator at the Office of National Security (ONS), has categorically denied any involvement in allegations related to a recent publication by the Gleaner Newspaper, claiming he is unaware of the details reported.
Responding to the article, Mr Caulker stated that he is not a party to the claims and was unaware of the incident described in the paper. Mr Caulker reiterated the ONS’s mandate in a statement, saying the office’s primary role is to coordinate the country’s security sector and protect Sierra Leone from all forms of organised crime.
He emphasised that the ONS serves primarily as a coordinating body, facilitating inter-agency collaboration among security and law enforcement entities, rather than as an investigative or pro-secutorial agency. In exercising his right to respond to the publication, the Security Coordinator reaffirmed his personal and institutional commitment to combating transnational organised crime, including the illicit drug trade.
Mr Caulker stated that he has been actively involved in anti-drug efforts and pledged to continue to lead initiatives aimed at disrupting drug trafficking networks while at the ONS.
He described this commitment as being consistent with the President’s agenda of preventing illegal narcotics from entering the country and protecting citizens from the dangers associated with trafficking and organised criminal activity.
Mr Caulker used the opportunity to advocate for continued public and institutional support for measures that strengthen border controls, improve law enforcement cooperation, and improve intelligence sharing across agencies. He urged stakeholders to prioritise coordination and resource sharing to effectively combat the evolving threats posed by organised crime. The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the ONS’s coordinating role and an appeal to partners and the general public to support collaborative efforts to protect national security.****
