Klymax Breed Foundation donates food items to Milton Margai School for the Blind

The Klymax Breed Foundation presented food supplies valued at approximately Le25 million to the Milton Margai School for the Blind on Wilkinson Road in Freetown. The donation was made in response to the school’s appeal and is intended to help with the students’ daily needs.
Ten bags of 50-kilogram rice, sachets of drinking water, three bags of onions, powdered milk, lunch meat, and tinned tomatoes were among the items distributed. The foundation described the quantity and mix of staples as sufficient to meet immediate needs while also supplementing the school’s feeding program.
Klymax Breed Foundation Program Manager Akiwumi Benjamin presented the donation, stating that the organisation acted in response to the headmaster’s public appeal for help. He emphasised the foundation’s commitment to assisting vulnerable and underserved communities and explained that the visit was part of a planned response to the school’s needs.
Headmaster Sallieu Turay provided an overview of the school’s history and current challenges during his welcome remarks. He mentioned that the Milton Margai School for the Blind, which is now 70 years old, has been providing education to visually impaired children for decades and has contributed significantly to Sierra Leone’s development. Turay assured guests that the food items would be used as intended, emphasising the importance of the meal program for students who eat three times per day.
The headmaster also provided information about the school’s operations and needs, stating that some students attend secondary schools throughout Freetown and that the institution uses approximately 50 litres of fuel per day. He urged other supporters and organisations to help the school as it prepares to celebrate its 70th anniversary, noting that despite ongoing challenges, the school has produced many notable citizens.
Alhaji Sanusi Bah, representing the Klymax Breed Organisation, explained that the group is a registered entity that was formally established in 2024 but has roots that predate that date. The organisation, which is made up of Fourah Bay College alumni and current students, claims to want to give back to society. Bah recalled the headmaster’s radio appeals and assured attendees that the donation marked the start of a long-term relationship, promising annual support for the school.
Mr David Williams, who presided over the handover ceremony, described the donation as timely and deliberate and wished the school a happy 70th birthday. The event included the formal transfer of the items to Headmaster Turay, prayers, the singing of the school song, the national pledge, and a special musical performance titled “It Is Only the Beginning of Our Love.” Jariatu Sesay, the senior prefect, gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the students and staff.
Organisers and school officials expressed optimism that the partnership would grow stronger in the coming years, and they encouraged other civic groups and individuals to join the effort to support the Milton Margai School for the Blind.
