The outgoing Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sierra Leone, Wang Qing, paid a farewell call today to Hon. Chernor Bah, Minister of Information and Civic Education, at the Minister’s office on the 8th Floor of the Youyi Building in Brookfields, Freetown. As Ambassador Wang’s two-and-a-half-year diplomatic assignment in Sierra Leone comes to an end, the meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the partnership formed between the Chinese Embassy and the Ministry since the Ministry was established in 2023.
During the cordial exchange, Ambassador Wang thanked Minister Bah and the entire Ministry team for their warm cooperation and friendship throughout his tenure. He reflected on the breadth of engagements and joint activities carried out over the years, noting that these initiatives had significantly strengthened ties between the Embassy and the Ministry. The Ambassador praised the Ministry’s professionalism and collaborative spirit, stating that Sierra Leone had come to feel like a “second home.” He also assured Minister Bah that China’s support for the Ministry would continue, and that his successor would inherit and build on the strong foundation that had been laid.
Minister Chernor Bah responded with heartfelt gratitude and surprise at the timing of the Ambassador’s departure, admitting that he had not expected such short notice. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Ambassador Wang for his personal dedication, the Embassy’s consistent support, and the fruitful collaboration enjoyed during his tenure. Minister Bah recalled that Ambassador Wang was among the first diplomats to visit him after taking office in 2023, offering immediate support and a commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The Minister outlined several concrete ways the Embassy has aided the Ministry’s development, such as capacity-building trainings for staff and journalists, financial assistance for refurbishing the Press Conference Room, and other collaborative initiatives that have helped to improve the Ministry’s operations and outreach. Minister Bah expressed profound gratitude to Ambassador Wang on behalf of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, the Ministry, and the Sierra Leonean people. He wished the Ambassador a warm farewell and success in his next assignment, while reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening Sierra Leone’s long-standing relationship with the People’s Republic of China.
