Following the symbolic opening of the 76th UNHCR Executive Committee plenary, Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina, Commissioner of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Dr Lansana Gberie and the staff of Sierra Leone’s Permanent Mission in Geneva. The visit took place at the Palais des Nations, which is currently hosting the ExCom 2025 session.

During their meeting, the two leaders had substantive discussions about Sierra Leone’s legislative and legal instruments that provide services to displaced citizens, refugees, and stateless individuals. They examined national policies and programmes that promote protection, reintegration, and social inclusion, as well as how these measures fit into the UNHCR’s mandate. Both stressed the importance of coordinated action between NaCSA and the Permanent Mission to advance the country’s humanitarian priorities.

Ambassador Ndomahina will attend ExCom 2025 and discuss international protection issues, such as those affecting refugees, returnees, and host communities. His participation in the proceedings emphasises Sierra Leone’s active participation in global debates about refugee welfare, long-term solutions, and community development.

Sierra Leone’s government, led by President Julius Maada Bio, continues to affirm its commitment to refugee protection and community recovery. This dedication is evident in the implementation of the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework, the country’s adherence to the Global Compact on Refugees, and NaCSA’s National Strategic Development Plan. These frameworks guide efforts to strengthen social protection systems, expand community development initiatives, and promote long-term reintegration.

In his upcoming statement, Commissioner Ndomahina will reiterate the government’s commitment to assisting refugees and returnees, improving social protection, and deepening partnerships with international actors. NaCSA is still Sierra Leone’s primary institution for coordinating humanitarian and development responses. The visit also accelerated plans for increased capacity development.
