Sierra Leone’s Minister of Transport and Aviation, Ambassador Col. (Rtd.) Alhaji Fanday Turay Esq., led a high-level delegation to a bilateral meeting with Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Industry, H.E. General Kamel El-Wazir, at the ministry’s new Cairo headquarters. This meeting reflects Sierra Leone and Egypt’s increasing collaboration, particularly in the transport sector.
Minister Turay expressed gratitude on behalf of Sierra Leone’s President, Brigadier (Rtd.) Julius Maada Bio, for Egypt’s warm hospitality and the two countries’ long-standing partnership. He emphasised the strong bilateral relationship and ongoing collaboration in critical areas such as aviation, shipping, public transportation, maritime, and port development. Minister Turay emphasised the importance of existing Memoranda of Understanding, which facilitate mutual objectives such as aviation training and port infrastructure improvements.
“This visit aims to strengthen our cooperation and form new partnerships that align with our national priorities and broader African goals, such as Agenda 2063 and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA),” Minister Turay stated.
In response, General El-Wazir welcomed the Sierra Leonean delegation and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to fostering cooperation. He praised the productive relationship between the two countries and expressed hope for future collaborative initiatives.
The discussions are expected to result in new agreements and technical collaborations that will benefit transport development and regional integration.
Following the meeting, the Sierra Leonean delegation and Ambassador Sadik Sillah toured key transport infrastructure in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital. Their itinerary included stops at the High-Speed Train Station, Light Rail Transit Station, and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Station on the Ring Road. They also saw an ongoing bridge project by Hassan Allam Company, which demonstrated Egypt’s significant progress in modern transportation infrastructure.
