The Government of Sierra Leone has officially launched the ‘Feed Salone’ Strategy, a comprehensive initiative aimed at transforming the Fisheries and Marine Resources sectors. This strategic move underscores the government’s commitment to achieving food sovereignty, promoting inclusive economic growth, and fostering sustainable development through the blue economy.

During the launch event, Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh delivered a keynote address on behalf of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio. He highlighted the critical role that the fisheries sector plays in the nation’s development. “This initiative represents more than just the unveiling of a policy document; it is a national vision with a concrete action plan. It reflects our unwavering commitment to our people, our economy, and our environment,” Dr. Sengeh stated.

The event featured a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation by Mr. Sheku Sei, the Acting Director of Fisheries, who elaborated on the sector’s immense potential and detailed the roadmap for effective implementation of the strategy.

Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Princess Dugba also spoke, reiterating the ministry’s commitment to sustainable fisheries management and the empowerment of local communities. The launch was attended by a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from SLIFCA, the Fishermen’s Consortium led by Master Fisherman Gbessay Kabia, various ministers, members of parliament, paramount chiefs, civil society organizations, media outlets, and international partners such as the World Bank and the Embassy of Iceland.
