Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay Esq., recently addressed participants at the opening session of a three-day Working Group Meeting focused on the ECOWAS Regional Trafficking in Persons Plus Strategy, held in Freetown. This significant gathering brought together regional stakeholders to concentrate on critical aspects of human trafficking, including prevention, investigation, and prosecution.

Attorney General Sesay underscored the urgency of aligning Sierra Leone’s strategies with those of neighboring countries, emphasizing that human trafficking is a transnational crime that necessitates cooperative efforts across borders. “Trafficking in persons is a crime that doesn’t respect borders. It’s a regional response from all member states,” he asserted, highlighting the collaborative nature of the fight against this pervasive issue.

During a visit to the Gbalamuya border crossing on March 26, 2025, Attorney General Sesay engaged with NRA Assistant Commissioner John B. Amara to explore border control protocols and the importance of inter-agency collaboration in tackling transnational crimes effectively.

The meeting culminated in a united commitment to adopting cohesive regional strategies aimed at enhancing responses to human trafficking and ensuring justice for victims. “Every victim rescued and reintegrated is a life restored to hope and humanity,” Sesay remarked, reinforcing the importance of a victim-centered approach. Under his leadership, Sierra Leone remains resolute in its mission to combat human trafficking and hold perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
