Former Presidents of the Sierra Leone Bar Association have strongly denounced the violence that marred the Annual General Meeting held in Kenema on May 17th and 18th, 2024.

They have expressed deep concern over the actions of some members of the Bar, which they believe are contrary to the values and principles of their esteemed profession. In a joint statement, the Past Presidents have condemned any efforts to disenfranchise members of the Association and obstruct their right to elect new leaders.

They have called for a thorough investigation into any actions that undermine the democratic process within the Association and have demanded the nullification of the results announced at the AGM in Kenema. The former Presidents have emphasized the need to restore faith and integrity within the legal profession by organizing immediate, proper, and transparent elections.

They have stressed the importance of conducting elections with the highest standards of fairness and impartiality, ensuring that all eligible members can freely exercise their right to vote without intimidation or obstruction.

Addressing the current leadership of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, led by Ms. Eddinia Swallow, the Past Presidents have urged swift and decisive action to address the irregularities and improprieties observed during the recent election process.

They have highlighted the importance of upholding the Association’s commitment to the rule of law and democratic governance. In conclusion, the Former Presidents have called for unity and solidarity within the legal profession in Sierra Leone. They have reaffirmed their dedication to supporting efforts to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process within the Bar Association, emphasizing the principles of justice and democracy that underpin their profession.
