50 Most Influential Students Awards Launches

A new national award designed to recognise the most influential students has been announced.

The maiden edition of the ‘50 Most Influential Students Awards 2021’ will be officially launched on February 25th, 2021, at Africell American Corner on Bathurst Street in Freetown. The event will be held on the theme: ‘Students Power in Academic Pursuits!’

This award ceremony is an initiative of two women-led organizations: Girl Pikin for Betteh Foundation and Mendelian Inheritance Foundation.

The organizers say the idea is to give spotlight and recognize the important aspects students play towards national development, as well as those students and institutions that are contributing towards nation-building.

The award recipients will represent the most influential students in various departments at college and the entertainment industry across the country, according to the organizers.

They explained that the selection criteria entails background checks in universities and colleges, as well as outside the nominee’s academic work.

The decision for the finalists will be determined by 50% of the background check and 50% of public voting.

Technical support for all this to succeed will be coming from volunteers from youth organizations involved in the scheme, including the Progressive Youth Organization Sierra Leone Africa and The Orphan Empowerment Society Sierra Leone.
